Intoduction [Apr. 23rd, 2006|10:07 am]
ritz camera

Well there haven't been any entries on here for a couple months, but I thought I'd go ahead and introduce myself anyway. My name is Justine and I just started working at store 1834 in Danville, VA. We're one of the stores that are inside Boscov's Department store, so we don't have a lab. I'm part-time and just getting started. Apparently our store has had a pretty high turnover rate, though it took them three months to hire me. I'm hoping the job will last me the rest of the way through college (two more years). I'm really having fun with it so far, as I'm very interested in photography. In fact I have my own darkroom for black and white. If anyone has any tips that might help me out feel free to pile them on me.

[mood |pissed offpissed off]

after waiting WEEKS for my lowepro/tamrac points...we finally got them.
or so we thought. i had about 54, according to my district manager.
ok, yay....i can FINALLY get my nova 4 aw case. i submitted my order and everything.

i get a call this morning from lowepro.

"sorry, we'll have to cancel this order for 42 points."
"but why? my DM said i had 54."
"well, you have only 34, so i'm going to disregard this order. you can resubmit if you'd like."

i guess i can order something slightly cheaper, and then swap it out.
i HOPE i just had enough tamrac points to get that backpack...

Developing costs [Jan. 24th, 2006|05:25 pm]
ritz camera

Hi, we don't have a Ritz Camera, but we do have a Wolf Camera. (I've always wondered why the lab was called Wolf Camera when it's a branch of Ritz..) Well, I have to go down to the lab to get price quotes as they don't have it on the website nor do they disclose them on the phone; I probably won't have any time to get down to the lab until I need to get my film developed. I have a roll of slide film that I want cross-processed, which is no extra cost at the lab, and I was wondering if I wanted it pulled a stop during developing and the prints to be colour corrected for skin tones, how much would that cost (the pulling and color correction)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

12.8 Megapixels of Joy! [Jan. 11th, 2006|05:44 pm]

being a Nikon user and fanatic, i NEVER thought i'd ever say this:

someone returned one to our store today from our Waterworks location (sigh...i feel for the associate who got hit by this.) which was a Ritz Express order.

now, i've also used a D2X, and while hands down, it kills the 5D...we don't have a D2X in store for me to mess with. and Canon's got that nifty wheel on the back to go through the shots with.

i'll post some shots with it as soon as i can sneak my laptop into the store. =)

BLACKEST FRIDAY! [Nov. 27th, 2005|12:36 am]
ritz camera
how'd y'all do?

we totaled with 21K here at 45, 3500 myself.
i sold:

- a billion of those shite 49.99 cameras
- sony dsc p-200, plus a 2 year
- minolta maxxum 5d kit, plus a 2 year and CWC (10-5-1 madness sale!)
- canon rebel k2, with 2 lens kit
- and a bunch of random other shit, and cameras i can't even remember.

we ran out of pretty much every cheap camera, sold out of our PSPs by 8am...and had NO I-POD shuffles.
plus, ritz express is hell to get through, i had to put it on speakerphone for 45 minutes to listen if someone would pick up.

what i've learned:
people suck.
7 am is too early to be camera shopping.
soccer moms are psychotic.

I have to say, I really hate this one Ritz Camera because everyone in there is a complete asshole, with the exception of this one really nice lady. (I dont work at Ritz). everytime I go in, people stare at me and are so rude. I feel like I am an intruder. However, there is another one where people are friendly. It just sucks that its another 15 minutes further.

I had just wanted to ask two questions. One) is how educated employees are in cameras? Does ritz hire anyone who knows how to advance film, or are they more selective? Second) do you guys cross process film?

Thanks, it would be appreciated

note to self:

when using the frontier computer to scan photos to burn to cd...DO NOT EVER PUT THEM IN SUPER HIGH REZ AGAIN.

i had the wise idea to scan 2 rolls of 36 exposure negs as 10x15 negs and have them burnt as TIFF image files.

HUGE mistake.

the CD only contained 14 of my 111 images (the last roll, of 3, i had scanned at regular resolution because i was in a hurry), and took forever to upload them to my iPhoto, and each image was 39.4 MB a piece. note: i have not used a frontier in over 9 months, i only had access to a digi-link machine.

so i'm betting any money the next 4-5 cds that pop out tomorrow morning will have my images on them...so i have to call up joel (lab manager) and tell him to check and pitch the cds.

hot shit. if i had all of the images now, they'd be about 3 gigs in my hard drive. and a little over a half made my computer go crazy.

i'll just stick with medium resolution from now on.

opinion of the new ritz packs (the cd ones):

yay or nay?

i say yay. just because its a break from the ordinary.

also: i may or may not be moving permanantly from store 48 to store 45.
hopefully i do, because this will mean:

- i'm in a MU store.
- i'm in a store with a print bar and a Frontier.
- i'll more than likely be bumped up to full time, with benefits.
- MAYBE i'll be put on commission. we'll see.

what i'll miss about 48:

- the simplicity of the RA-4. i know how to manipulate the shit out of stuff on there.
- the people i work with!
- being the main sales person there.
- the hottie who works at game stop across the hall. ;)
